Coaching Explained > What is coaching all about?

Coaching is a discussion between two people, the coach and you. Usually this is face to face, at a convenient location. Sometimes it can take place over the telephone, so you can be in the privacy of your own home or perhaps at work. Whichever suits you. The discussion usually lasts about 60 minutes, though the first session can take up to 90 minutes. So what happens during that time?

Invariably we talk about you. About what you want from coaching. Helping you achieve the clarity about what you want in life. Giving you the confidence to move towards that outcome of a more successful and happy life. The life that you deserve to lead. Of course, you need to take some steps to get there. The number of steps depends on what you want. A few big steps or more smaller steps. The choice is yours.

Each session is tailored to help you achieve a step towards your outcome. There is no one-size-fits-all format or process. You are unique and so deserve a flexible approach that meets your needs. Your coach will work within a framework to ensure you stay on track, and give you all the support you need. A supportive relationship that will allow you to face up to the challenges. It is a partnership of equals, based on a shared feeling trust and empathy. Your coach will encourage you to stand on your own two feet. You have the solutions and the resources within you to move forward. To move to a happier, more balanced life.

Coaching is different from therapy or counselling. Coaching focuses on the future. It helps you to create possibilities and opportunities to get more out of life. You have all you need to get there. You will find your own answers. Your coach simply guides you to your destination. To pursue a fulfilled and authentic life. To inspire you and motivate you to take that first step towards that outcome. Then the next step, and the step after that. Only you can take those steps. Only you can live the life you want to lead.
